The Best Mediterranean Destinations for Empty Leg Flights

The Mediterranean basin is the most active region for empty leg availability in Europe. These are the destinations generating the most listings - and the best value.

If you're going to fly private on an empty leg, the Mediterranean is the place to do it. The concentration of charter activity around the French Riviera, the Balearics, the Ionian islands, and the Italian coast means that positioning flights - and the empty legs they generate - are more frequent here than anywhere else in Europe.

Ibiza is the single most active destination for empty legs in the European summer. The island has no major commercial hub, which means almost all wealthy visitors arrive by private aviation. Operators fly clients out for the weekend and need to reposition aircraft on Sunday or Monday, creating a reliable stream of outbound empty legs. London to Ibiza and Paris to Ibiza are consistently among the cheapest legs on the platform.

Nice Côte d'Azur serves as the gateway to the Riviera and one of the busiest private aviation airports in Europe. Legs into and out of LFMN appear year-round, with peak availability in July and August. The airport is also well-positioned for onward travel to Monaco, Cannes, and Saint-Tropez by helicopter or car.

Mykonos and Santorini in Greece generate strong availability in high summer. The challenge is that these legs are popular, so they tend to fill quickly. Setting an alert for Greek island routes in June gives you the best chance of catching early-season availability before competition peaks in July.

Palma de Mallorca is underrated. The island attracts significant charter traffic from Northern Europe throughout the summer, and the volume of positioning flights to and from Palma means there's often good availability at competitive prices. It's also a longer season than Ibiza - legs appear from late April through October.

Olbia in Sardinia deserves a mention for its combination of exclusivity and pricing. As a destination primarily served by private and charter aviation, Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport generates consistent empty leg traffic from Paris, Geneva, London, and Amsterdam throughout July and August.
